Former GM: Taj Mahal Hotel
Mr. Karambir Kang is the Area Director USA and General Manager – Taj Boston at Taj
Hotels & Resorts. Prior to Taj Boston, he was the General Manager of the Taj Mahal Palace
Hotel in Mumbai when the hotel was attacked by terrorists in November 2008. He was the
leading gure in the coordination of guest evacuation during the attack and siege of Taj,
a “true hero” according to guests. He exempli ed leadership in crisis as he supervised the
evacuation of guests and coordinated the e orts of re ghters amid the chaos, standing by
the true values and culture of his organization.
In 2009, he received the special award of Corporate Citizen Of the Year on behalf of the
employees of his hotel and those of the Oberoi and the Trident, for conducting themselves
with incredible heroism and dignity in the four days that their hotels were under attack. Other
Global awards that he has won include – Virtuoso “Best of the Best” Hotelier of the year, e
French Legion of Honor – D’O cier de L’Ordre National Du Merite for distinguished service
and was nominated among 20 other luminaries for Forbes (India) Person of the year.
A true hero and a respected leader, he has devoted more than 20 years to Taj hotels,
serving as general manager, director of sales and director of sales and marketing. Over the
years he has been the director of sales of various hotels across the Taj Group – e Taj Mahal
Hotel, New Delhi; Taj Lands End, Mumbai and the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Mumbai. He
has also been featured in major media outlets, from Forbes Magazine to BBC News, for both
his bravery and his prominence in the hotel industry.
