Mr Prashant Prabhu attended the Scindia School, Gwalior (1961-1967) and St Xavier’s College (1968-1972) University of Bombay where he received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science (Technology) in Textile Chemistry (UDCT 1972-1975). He then attended North Carolina State University in the United States, where he earned a Master of Science, Textile Chemistry in 1977 and a PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science in 1979.
Following his studies, he joined the Michelin Group as Manager, Materials Development at Michelin America Research and Development Corp. in Greenville, SC. After serving as Director, Materials Development at Michelin in Clermont Ferrand, France from 1986 to 1992, he returned to Greenville, where he was appointed Director, Materials Development.
In 1995, he was appointed Vice President, New Manufacturing Development at Michelin North America in Greenville. Two years later, he was promoted to President, Michelin America Research and Development Corp.
Mr Prabhu was President, Earthmover and Industrial Tires Worldwide for Michelin from 2002 to August 2007.
In September 2007, he became the President, Asia-Pacific at Michelin Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd, responsible for Group Services in the Asia-Pacific Zone (excluding China), based in Singapore.
Since October 2009, Mr Prabhu has been the President for the Africa-India-Middle East Zone.
Member of the American Chemical Society, he is fluent in English, French, Hindi and Marathi.
